In the case of the wealthy officials and their families, the funerary monuments were paid by the relatives. The funeral of the simple sailors and lower officials was paid for from their own wages. The question is whether a funeral monument was also placed on these graves. If they did, it would almost certainly have been wood, a cheap and easy available material.
